Sharon S. Simmons Artist Statement
For me, painting is, One Part Water, Two Parts Joy
I am happy to introduce myself and my art to you. The works shown, cover a significant span of time and study. All of my paintings are currently available as mentioned in each caption, by the original available painting and/or a fine art image of the original. The small Mixed Media abstract paintings are my most recent works! Some of the miniature paintings, I have chosen to offer as larger format fine art prints.
My paintings have evolved from my love and enthusiasm for color. I learned to design with fabric at an early age, inspired by my mother's extraordinary talent as a designer, seamstress and quilter. I developed a talent directed towards the flow of pigments and creating designs without brushes. It has been and still is an amazing journey!
The new original, archival mixed media, abstract works are the newest incarnation of my 48-year love affair with art making.
During that time I have taught classes, owned my studio-gallery and frame shop in Bentonville, Arkansas. My business highlighted local, regional and national artists.
My work has been shown regionally and nationally. Many paintings reside in major corporate collections.
A solo exhibition titled "Summer On The Sun Porch" representing 60 original pieces of my work was held at the Walton Arts Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
I worked as an Administrative Assistant for the visual arts and graphic design departments at NorthWest Arkansas Community College for 17 years and I painted, and painted, and painted! I have typically created large, realistic watercolors. Continued education and study lead me to a passion for expressiveness abstraction. I began with very large format canvases of linear design. That has brought me to the joy I have found in working with this smaller format, I am able to offer the abstracts at an affordable price, which honors my conviction that everyone can enjoy owning original art.
It has been my pleasure to have made an art contribution in Northwest Arkansas. I look forward to the opportunity to further that passion by sharing my art with you, through my websites.
Thank you for you interest in my work! SSS
